San Shou Kuan Competitions – Taolu (Forms) , Sanda / Qingda  (Sparring);  BCCMA Competitions
San Shou Kuan Regional Gradings and  National Gradings.

SSK Checklist

This is  a checklist of eg things you need to bring to your first grading,   tips for taolu or sparring competions, summary of scoring etc

 Regional Grading:
Pre-Register: Not required*
Overview:
Local class grading for students to progress up the coloured belts.

Format:
Two students at a time, perform your:

(i) Form (best mark in 1st attempt, allowed 3)
(ii) Fixed sparring
(iii) Free sparring for blue belts and above.

Checklist:  (Bring):
1.  Your San Shou Kuan uniform.

2.  * A grading application form, signed by your instructor (min. 16 hours training prior to grading).
3.  £15 grading fee
Preperation:
Tip: Be early practice your form;  check train/roads not closed – especially w’end events.

 

National BB Grading:
Pre-Register:     Required (+ deposit
(2 weeks prior)
Overview:
National grading as per format below.
Format:
1st Grader: Your form, Fixed sparring (throwing) Free sparring (1 round + assisst in 2v1 for 1st Duans).
1st Duan:
Your grading and a revision form, Free sparring (5 rounds incl. 2v1), destruction tests; punch, chop, side-kick.
Checklist:  (Bring):
1. Payment.  2. SSK Uniform.  3. Groin guard;  4. Gum shied; 5. 16oz Gloves; 4. Head guard;  5. Shin and instep pads;  6. Water and food.
Preperation:
train hard, get Forms feedback from seniors early- enter taolu comp,  practice 2v1, ‘drill in’ destruction techniques.
Tips:
Be early,  check train/roads not closed – especially w’end events.

 

SSK Taolu Competion:
Pre-Register:     Required (2 weeks prior)

Overview:
Entering in teams 3, each member does 3 forms relevant to their grade, best scores get medals. (you can combine this with regional grading- your best score counts as grading result)

Preperation:
Know your relevant forms (check using
application form drop down menus) strive to make revision forms better (than you achieved before as eg a white, blue belt etc)
Tip:
Be early, check train/roads not closed – especially w’end events.

SSK Sanda / Qingda Comp:
Pre-Register:   Required (2 weeks prior)
Overview:
Ideal oppotunity for gaining competition experience,  Ref’s are very proactive to protect fighters, as this ideal springboard to later comps in the year.
Format:

Checklist:  (Bring):
1. Groin guard;  2. Gum shied; 3. Gloves;* 4. Rib protectors;*   5. Head guard;*  6. Shin and instep pads*  7.  Shorts or black trousers plus T shirt.  (* loan kit available, if you don’t have or organizer decides not suitable). 8. water bottles and food.

Sanda Rules Synopsis:  (Full details)
(i)  All standard strikes are allowed excluding elbows and knees.
(ii) Sweeps and take downs are allowed.
(iii) No wrestling or ground work or striking whilst opponent is down is allowed.
Scoring: 2 points:  kicks to head, throw opponent to floor and remain standing. (& force opponent off fight area)
1 point: Punch to head, kick to body or quads, throw opponent to floor and land on him.
Preperation:
Tip: Be early, check train/roads not closed – especially w’end events.


BCCMA Sanda competitions:
Pre-Register:
   Required (2 weeks prior)

Overview:
You will be matched in weight  age categories (kids, youth, adults, veterans) etc competing against other clubs, bout winners move onto next round. 
Format:
Each bout is typically best of 3 rounds,  round time can vary based on age.
Checklist:  (Bring):
1. Groin guard (men and women);  2. Gum shied; 3. Gloves; 4. Rib protectors;   5. Head guard;*  6. Shin and instep pads  7.  Shorts or black trousers plus T shirt. (You need both red and blue tops and shorts)   8. water bottles and food.
Preperation:
‘Sport specific’ fitness; (running is great stamina builder but not replacement for ‘fighting fit’).  Practice sparring in defined area eg 8x8m . (repeatedly moving outside fight area is common mistake for losing a round)
Tips:
  Know the rules, ideally you or coach attend a free Judging course.  Be early, check train/roads not closed – especially w’end events.
Scoring: 2 points:  kicks to head, throw opponent to floor and remain standing. (& force opponent off fight area*)
1 point: Punch to head, kick to body, throw opponent to floor and land on him.
* Repeatedly doing this you may be awarded that round!
