What to Expect:

Disciplined fun!
Class starts with warm up and bit of stretching, then moving on to some basic martial arts and some light padwork; the emphasis is on safety – not asking their bodies to attempt movements / techniques they are not ready for.  The class typically ends with a very short game eg ‘dodgeball’ (sponge balls) if they have trained well and a ‘Student of the week’ certificate.

Bio – About the instructor (Sifu):

Matt Bithel 1st Degree Black Belt  & Jo Hinchliffe.    Matt and Jo have been training 12 and 5 years respectivily, both have children training in this class. Matt is also a coach of Bethesda Athletic under 8’s football team  and Jo had a long career in youth work.

Parental Information:

San Shou Kuan is a full member of the BCCMA (*Official UK Chinese Martial Arts Governing body).  Coaching staff are DBS registered; completed or completing Safeguard coaching requirments.

[*Recognised by the Sports Council (UK), European Wushu Federation & International Wushu Federation which in turn is recognised  by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ]

SSK organise our own Taolu (Forms cf solo dance routines!)  and Qingda (touch contact sparring)  competitions for children that chose to enter.  (Full contact is only for teenagers and adults)     We entered our first  ever National Youth  Light contact kickboxing competition in 2019 with a small team of 4 who wanted to compete – San Shou Kuan left with 2 golds, a silver and a bronze medal! A strong endorsement our syllabus is on track as we outperformed many more established and much bigger schools.

Our Little Dragon syllabus is constantly being refined, based on instructor and parental feedback, originally devised by one of SSK founders David working closely with his Black teaching team,  which compromises of school teachers and youth coaches in other sports .  (see Our Instructing team for detailed Bio’s)
