Disciplined fun!
Class starts with warm up and bit of stretching, then moving on to some basic martial arts and some light padwork; the emphasis is on safety – not asking their bodies to attempt movements / techniques they are not ready for. Progress is tracked by each child having their own SSK ‘passport’ for parents to monitor. The class typically ends with a very short game eg ‘dodgeball’ (sponge balls) if they have trained well.
San Shou Kuan is a full member of the BCCMA (*Official UK Chinese Martial Arts Governing body). Coaching staff are DBS registered; completed or completing Safeguard coaching requirments.

David Nicholls, a parent of 3 young children, 6th Degree Black Belt with a Masters in Sports and Exercise Science (MSc. SES). David has been teaching for over 25 years but San Shou Kuan only started dedicated classes for children under 10 years old, 7 years ago meaning the ‘syllabus’ for these students is still evolving.
(We entered our first ever National Youth Light contact kickboxing competition in 2019 with a small team of 4 who wanted to compete – San Shou Kuan left with 2 golds, a silver and a bronze medal! A strong endorsement our syllabus is on track as we outperformed several more established and much bigger schools) Update: In 2022 (comps suspended during covid locdown) we entered a team of 9 – All of whom got on the winners podium! see Our Galleries for more info
David also teaches short intensive martial arts courses to professional actors to help solidify their skills for stage and action combat, plus he teaches traditional adult classes and full contact fighters.
He was also elected onto the EXEC board of the British Council of Chinese Martial Arts (Est 1973, The Official UK governing body of Chinese Martial Arts.
